Buying Petite Jeans: A Look at Some Options From Popular Brands in the UK

There’s nothing like a great-fitting pair of jeans, but it seems most jeans are designed with taller than average women in mind.

The definition of what height is considered “petite” in the UK is 5’3" or 5'4"and under. However, even women who are around 5’5” can have trouble finding jeans that don’t drag the ground, especially if they like to wear flats with their jeans.

So how do you find jeans if you’re not supermodel tall? Here are some brands that offer good options for shorter women.

CC Fashion

M&Co

M&Co appear to carry a smaller range of jeans in their Petite Collection than previously although they also offer a ‘Shorter Length’ within their core department. Miss Selfridge

Trendy petite jeans at Miss Selfridge in sizes 4-14 - mostly skinny jeans or super skinny.

The Jacques Vert brands: Precis Petite & Just Last Season

Precis Petite offer two lengths of jeans although both are designed and cut for the petite frame. Their standard petite has an inside leg length of 75cm (29½ inches) and their shorter range leg length is 72 cm (28¼ inches). Both leg lengths are available in sizes 6 to 18. See Precis Petite Jeans.

Wallis

The petite range from Wallis claim to be cut for a height of 5'3"/157.5cm and under and their trouser length shortened by 7cm but the petite jeans appear to quote a leg length of 75cm (30 inches) which is more suitable for a taller petite or to wear with heels. See Wallis petite jeans.

Petite jeans available in department stores

Viyella Petite Jeans has a small selection of smart jeans with a 28” leg length and can be found in Viyella Petite at John Lewis. A little pricey but worth a look if you’re after a smart petite jean. Minuet Petite is another brand offering smart petite jeans. Their sizes range from 8 to 20 and are well cut for women 5’3” or under. Marks & Spencer

The leg length of Marks & Spencer’s short jeans depends on the style of the jean; For Slim & Classic fit it’s 68cm (26¾"), for Straight, Wide, Bootleg and Kick Flare it’s 72cm (28¼"). At the moment they have just two pairs (slim leg or straight leg) although they look good quality and sit on the waist (so much more confortable that hipsters) and at £25 a pair not a bad price.
